PKKP member EVA STEWART named among Western Australia’s 40under40 Business Leaders
Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura (PKKP) member Eva Stewart has been recognised as one of Western Australia’s top emerging leaders, receiving a coveted 40under40 Award at the Business News gala in Perth on May 2.
The annual 40under40 Awards celebrate the achievements of Western Australia’s most outstanding young entrepreneurs, innovators, and future business leaders under the age of 40. This year’s ceremony, held before more than 600 guests from across the state’s business community, honoured individuals for their commercial success, leadership, and contributions to community.
At just 29, Eva Stewart is already redefining leadership in the resources sector. Born as a proud Pinikura woman, and a member of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura Aboriginal Corporation (PKKP), she grew up in the Pilbara and now leads two thriving Indigenous-owned companies as Managing Director of Australian Indigenous Group (AIG) and Australian Indigenous Enterprises.
Despite once thinking mining wasn’t for her, Eva has become a powerful voice for change within the industry. Under her guidance, AIG has expanded its civil, mining, and earthworks operations, working with major Tier 1 clients while embedding a values-driven approach focused on Aboriginal development, sustainability, and cultural inclusion.
“We’re not just here to make money. We’re here to create something that lasts for our people, our communities and for Country,” Eva said.
Her leadership has seen AIG implement initiatives such as structured traineeship programs for those facing social, economic, or cultural barriers to employment, a growing number of Indigenous employees (over 40% of the workforce), and strong pathways for women into operational and leadership roles.
Eva believes that Indigenous knowledge and perspectives are critical to shaping a more sustainable and inclusive resources sector.
“When Indigenous knowledge and values are embedded in business strategy, you get stronger outcomes. For people, for the land and for the long-term sustainability of the sector,” she said.
Eva’s business partner Jason Chong nominated her for the award, recognising her tireless dedication to building businesses that create opportunity, strengthen community, and ensure cultural safety across operations.
Winning a 40under40 Award is a significant milestone, providing recognition, networking, and media opportunities to propel careers and businesses to new heights. Stewart joins a celebrated list of past recipients whose work continues to shape the future of Western Australia.
Looking ahead, Eva remains committed to leading with purpose.
“I want to see more Indigenous people in leadership. More women. More diverse voices at every level because the best ideas arrive when different perspectives come together,” she said.
For Eva, her achievements are not just about personal success, but about creating pathways, changing systems, and leaving a legacy for future generations.
PKKP Aboriginal Corporation is proud to have Eva as a member of our community, and her success as a young leader in her community and businesses. She is an inspiration for our members and a shining light for young women to follow.
